So last Sunday, before I mowed my lawn, I pulled some weeds in the yard. As I was out there giving it to the weeds, I found it ironic how I was fighting diversity in my yard. If you didn't know, diversity is "kind of a big deal" (some may find that last link offensive), except when it comes to lawn care. So I found that ironic. Either way that's not what this is about.
I seem to have taken a sudden interest in lawn care. Not just an interest in mowing my lawn, but also an interest in freeing it from the grasp of the weeds that currently plague it. With that in mind I have declared war on the unwanted vegetation. It didn't really start out as an all out war, I was just pulling a few weeds, but as time passed I noticed my efforts seemed to have no effect. So I got a little closer and studied my enemy a bit and began to notice some patterns in how they organized themselves. Either way, this is not a conventional war, as both sides are using very unique and innovative tactics rather then a full on frontal assault. I am at a slight disadvantage because they out number me and can build their numbers quickly. I do have allies in the form of my grass, but with out my help, they are useless and will be overrun.
So I have been selectively targeting weeds in the green zone for termination. Going too far into enemy territory is somewhat futile as I can eliminate the enemy, but if my allies are not there to occupy the ground I have won, the enemy will quickly return. Mostly I just keep the enemy in check. So the plan is to gradually expand the area my allies occupy by clearing out the enemy just on the edge of the green zone and keeping that area clear until the green zone has expanded. We will see how successful this strategy is.
More later perhaps.
